Q: Can you please state your name and year?

A: Katelyn Pan, class of 2017

Q: Where and when were you born?

A: I was born on September 21, 1994 in Boston Massachussetts. I have lived there my whole life.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your background?

A: Um I have two older brothers. Both my parents are first-generation Chinese-American. They’re both dentists and have their own practice. Uh… I went to Buckingham Browne and Nichols School for high school… Yeah…

Q: Can you tell us about your camping experience and the situation in which you heard this story?

A: Sure. So I went to an environmental summer camp when I was in 5th grade. And I went to skiing camps in Oregon and Colorado when I was in middle school. The Oregon camp was in the summer, like in ’08 and ’09, and colorado was during Thanksgiving in like 2008. I learned this story at the ski camp in Oregon when I was like 13. We like lived in cabins in the woods outside Government Camp, Oregon.

Q: Who told the story and what was the setting?

A: One of the counselors told us. We had one night where people shared scary stories around a fire and we made s’mores and stuff.

Q: Can you please tell us the story

A: Yeah. So there’s this teenage couple and they’re in the guy’s car and they drive to makeout point. As they’re sitting there, they hear on the radio that there is a crazed serial killer on the loose. This man is distinctive because he is missing his right hand and replaced it with a hook. This news story kind of freaks out the girl but the boyfriend tells her to ignore it. So, the couple start, like, getting handsy and stuff, when they hear weird scraping sounds on the roof of the car. The girl gets kind of nervous, but the boyfriend brushes it off and they go back to what they were doing. Then they hear the scraping sounds again, this time louder. The girl is completely freaked out now and demands to be taken home, so the guy begrudgingly agrees and drives away quickly, tires screeching. He drives her home and goes to open her car door for her. But when he sees the door his face goes white. The girl gets out of the car and looks at the door too. On the car door handle hangs a bloody hook.
